Carlos Peñafiel is a self-taught Chilean artist whose work blends strength, sensuality, and poetic imagination. Born in 1949, he mastered leatherworking in Brazil before settling in Paris in the 1970s, where he developed his unique artistic voice.

This richly illustrated monograph traces his creative journey, highlighting his sculptural mastery of molded leather, wood, and bronze. His dreamlike, anthropomorphic forms transform everyday materials, challenging perception and evoking emotion.

A longtime collaborator of LEMAIRE, Peñafiel’s work is deeply connected to the creative vision of Sarah-Linh Tran, whose sensitivity to craftsmanship and materiality aligns with his approach.
