A series of goods designed for the Judd Foundation, featuring a custom typeface inspired by the historic Hotel Paisano in Marfa, Texas. Drawing on the region’s architectural lettering and local vernacular, the project celebrates place through typographic form.
Designed by El Paso architect Henry C. Trost and completed in 1930, the Hotel Paisano served local cattle ranchers doing business in Marfa and visitors drawn to the dry desert climate of West Texas during the 1930s and 1940s.
Marfa, which Judd chose as a place to live and work, provided the space and freedom that supported his uncompromising artistic vision—this project pays tribute to that relationship.
