Hauser & Wirth has been publishing books since the gallery’s founding. Its publications are unique, object-like books encouraging an understanding and appreciation of modern and contemporary art. The gallery initially published its books through partnerships with existing houses, but it soon created its independent imprint, Hauser & Wirth Publishers.
We developed Hauser & Wirth Publisher’s identity as a lightweight, flexible system that would still allow each publication to keep a strong individual identity. The logo is built on a vertical and diagonal grid, offering a rational underlying structure enabling it to work well on scales ranging from the spine of a book to signage on the gallery’s bookshop. We also art-directed a series of still lives to display the gallery’s publications on their website and designed a series of large bookmarks for use in the shops and as a giveaway.
