Sarah Ball
Sarah Ball
Book
This catalogue was published on the occasion of Sarah Ball’s solo exhibition at Stephen Friedman Gallery in 2022. It spans the last five years of the artist’s practice, who is known for her enigmatic portraits questioning the images of ourselves we project to the world and celebrating unconventional gender norms.
The artist’s work is reflected in the materials, whose minimal tone shifts reflect the tonality of her layered paintings. The book’s edges are cut raw, bringing a contemporary voice to the publication and nodding to Ball’s punk idols. By contrast, the typeface is quiet and unusually small, reflecting the artist’s contained gestures.
