The Land We Live In

CampaignExhibition

Hauser & Wirth Somerset’s exhibition ‘The Land We Live In — The Land We Left Behind’, curated by Adam Sutherland, explored the contradictory nature of society’s relationship to the rural. It featured over 50 international artists and creatives from the 1500s to the present day.

Approaching the design for this exhibition from a typographical perspective, we borrowed the visual language from Victorian auction posters. Jonas Paxton’s posters, which were printed by Thomas William Pankhurst, provided us with a wealth of typographic references which we were keen to bring up to date. The typefaces produced by Ellmer Stefan for the Pyte Foundry provided just the right tone of whimsy and contemporary.
