Victor Man
Victor Man
Book
Published on the occasion of the solo exhibition Victor Man, on view at Gladstone Gallery, New York from March 15 to April 27, 2024.
The design reflects the painter’s enigmatic and introspective vision. His works are presented without accompanying text, allowing them to exist on their terms. Captions float on islands of blue paper, creating a rhythm of pauses and movement throughout the book. This structure mirrors the atmospheric, almost nocturnal quality of Man’s paintings, reinforcing their sense of ambiguity and contemplation. The publication resists interpretation, instead offering a space for the viewer to engage with the work in its silence.
The typography and materials echo the depth and intimacy of the paintings.
The catalogue includes a passage from E. M. Cioran’s The Second-Hand Thinker: Tribulations of an Alien (1949) and an afterword by Barbara Gladstone.
